General objective
Increased knowledge & understanding of the feedbacks between the continental surface, the atmosphere and the ocean.
The interactions between the land surface, the atmosphere and the ocean are controlling factors for the development and the variability of the West African monsoon. These interactions occur on a range of time and spatial scales. The system is complicated by the fact that the different scales are deeply coupled: small scales influence the larger scale and vice versa.
This WG will be particularly concerned with addressing the sciences issues raised at the regional scale, mesoscale, and local scale (Sections 3.2.2, 3.2.3 and 3.2.4 of ISP) including Variability and Predictability of the WAM and Impacts of the WAM on global climate.
General activities
- Land surface processes and atmospheric forcing;
- Oceanic circulations relevant to WAM;
- Atmospheric response to land surface processes and oceanic fluxes;
- Coupling processes at regional scale, ….
