General objective
Increased knowledge and understanding of the global water cycle over the West African region.
The understanding of the global water cycle and its change due to natural and anthropogenic factors is critically important, as availability of water is one of the most limiting parameters for life, agriculture and economic development, especially in the Sahel. The water cycle also plays a central role in monsoon dynamics and its variability, and in high-impact forecasts.
The water cycle needs to be approached through the estimation of the water budget components at different scales. This WG will be particularly concerned with addressing the sciences issues raised at the regional scale and mesoscale (Sections 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 of ISP)
General activities
- Water cycle & its interannual variability on the West Africa region;
- Atmospheric and surface integrated water cycle at mesoscale;
- Uupscaling & downscaling.
