AMMA Science during the Phase 1

During the phase 1 of AMMA, five Integrative Science Working Groups and two Cross-Cutting Groups have been set up to coordinate and promote the key integrative science at the international level. Behind and supporting this, other research activities exist in AMMA, e.g. process studies.

Organization: It is not necessary and impossible to reproduce at the international level the various structures of different projects contributing to AMMA. To ensure the integration of the activities of the AMMA projects, the ISSC has decided to coordinate 5 main integrative science Working Groups and 2 Cross-Cutting activities.

WG1: West African monsoon and Global Climate including aerosols and chemistry

WG2: Water cycle

WG3: Surface - Atmosphere feedbacks

WG4: Prediction of Climate Impacts

WG5: High impact weather prediction and predictability (joint with THORPEX)

CC1: Climate modelling (evaluation and improvement)

CC2: Long Term Observations (EOP 2007, LOP and satellite products)
