Programme : Workshop on impacts of climate fluctuations and trends in West Africa

The objectives of the workshop are:

• Coordinate studies on seasonal prediction and climate change between ENSEMBLES and AMMA
• Integrate more strongly the different impact studies carried out within AMMA
• Integrate the new African partners which have joined the AMMA-EU consortium

The agenda will cover the following topics :

• A brief introduction to the two projects, ENSEMBLES and AMMA
• A brief review of the outcome of the AMMA SOP/EOP campaign
• West African Monsoon and the global climate
• Short to seasonal forecasts
• Scaling issues in the West African monsoon
• Land-productivity, including pastoral production
• Water ressource management
• Public health
• Vulnerability and adaptation studies
• Early warning systems for food security

The last day of the workshop will be target towards the AMMA project. The first four days will be a joint workshop.
